Before I departured to Pontianak, my parents accompanied me to Soekarno-Hatta airport from Serang. On our way to went there, my mother asked me to bring some foods and drink, especially candy.

After we arrived at the airport, my parents directly helped me to check in my ticket in the ticket window. Then, my parents accompanied me to the waiting room. On that time, I felt that I was brave, the nine years old girl have a flight alone without her parents. Hence, I waited in the waiting room with my parents and stranger people sat around me.

In the evening, I gather with my family to share about our activities. The last activity, I go to bed and sleep.

A Boy who Need a Freedom in “Vanka” Story by Anton Cekhov

A Boy who Need a Freedom in “Vanka” Story by Anton Cekhov

“Vanka” is the one of stories that written by Cekhov. In this story, Cekhov as the author or the narrator who tells the story. It can be showed by the use of third singular pronoun “he” that signifies “Vanka” as the major character, for example in the “By the day he slept in the servants kitchen or cracked jokes with the cook ....”(see the 3rd paragraph). Besides that the author knowing all the private thoughts and feelings of everyone in the story, especially in this story the protagonist character is “Vanka”. That is pointed by Cekhov as the writer knows the vanka’s dream that he saw his grandfather sat on the stove, his bare legs hanging down, and read the letter to the cooks (see the last paragraph).

The use of omnicient author point of view in this story is similar with the other Cekhov story, for example “Happiness”. The similarity of the omnicient author point of view from both stories are showed in the “Happiness” story the author involves in the story, for example the author is in the toothless old man of eighty. It showed by the use of aphostrope in the story and knows what the old man experience with the treasure.

From “Vanka” story the author looking at world through psychological view. It can be pointed that the nine years old boy whom naturally play with his friends, school, and feel happy in his chilhood but here different, he should work againts his will. In addition, in the story of “Happiness” the phycological view is “what was the use of earthly happiness to people who might die any day of old age?” (see the last paragraph). The last, it means that the earthly happiness just can make people happy for a moment.

“The Lottery” Written by Jackson (1948)

“The Lottery” Written by Jackson (1948)

A literary work, especially prose can be analyzed through some elements, as follows: setting, character, plot, point of view, symbol, theme, and style. Every text can be looked from that plot or can be seen through what happens in the story, and is there a central conflict/ problem in the story.

The text entitled “The Lottery” which is written by Jackson has some conflicts or problems, for example the conflict appears when the original parapherrnalia for the lottery has been lost long ago, and the black box now resting on the stool. This story seems like other prose which has some stages or steps to develop the story such as exposition, complication, climax, and resolution.

This story is developed from exposition that is showed in the first paragraph tells about the differentiation between two villages in conducted the lottery in their village. That introduces about the story in the beginning.

The parts of the story that attract the reader is the climax stage. One of the climax is showed in “When there was each villager who has one chance to open the lottery”.

The plot of this story is unlinear or anachrony, that means any variation/ deviation on chronological progression in a plot of the story. There some analepsis in the story, for example in the second paragraph the author tells about a boy who stuffed his pockets full of stones, and other selecting the smoothest and roundest stones. Then, the author continues about the children who had stones in almost last paragraph.

Woman Who Lived in a Lie of Her Loved

Woman Who Lived in a Lie of Her Loved

In Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour”

Every story has the character to make it powerful and interesting to read because through the character the author can represent the verbal representation of human being. In this text, entitled “the story of an hour” written by Chopin, this story has four characters. The characters that appear in the story are Mrs. Mallard, Mr. Brently Mallard, Mrs. Mallard’s sister (Josephine) and Richard as Mr. Brently Mallard’s friend. Although in the story mentions four characters, but just two characters that often emerge such as Mrs. Mallard and Josephine.

In this story there is some types of od characters revisited, the first is protagonist. Protagonist sometimes refers to the angel character but actually protagonist means the main character. In this story that is written in 1894, the protagonist character is Mrs. Mallard because she is the first actor. It is shown from the story told about Mrs. Mallard heart problem with her husband. In case of this type, it is not complete if there is no the antagonist character, so in this story the opposing actor of Mrs. Mallard is Josephine.

All characters in the text have different characterization, for example Mrs. Mallard is a kind and patient person. It can be drawn in the story (tenth line) and the sentence “There was a dull stare in her eyes” that shows she feel stressful when she lived with her husband without love. Thus, Josephine is head-strong person because she told to Mrs. Mallard (her sister) the broken sentence.

Besides that, the explanatory characterization is used in this story to present the characters. It uses in the text because in some extent the narrator telling and describing the characterizations of the characters. It can be shown from the characterization of Mrs. Mallard, the narrator describes her as “she was young, with a fair, calm face ...” (see eighth paragraph).

The characters in this text more complex or as round character for instance, the character of Mrs. Mallard she has difference feature, it means a long she married with her husband she often has not love her husband, then she lived in a lie of her love (the related statement see fifteenth paragraph).
